Spring has a way of making everything feel a little more inviting.

The days stretch out, gardens burst into colour and suddenly the idea of escaping for a few days feels less like a plan and more like an excellent idea.

Enter Bloom, a spring celebration bringing together more than 100 events and experiences across the Bendigo Region – with plenty of reasons to get out and explore.

And this isn’t just about stopping to smell the flowers, although there are certainly plenty of those.

From the centre of Bendigo to destinations across the wider region. Bloom brings together gardens, food, art, history, culture, markets and after-dark adventures, creating a spring program designed to suit curious travellers, food lovers, culture vultures and anyone who enjoys a good excuse for a getaway.

To put it simply, Bloom showcases the Bendigo Region at its colourful best.

“Bloom is a celebration of everything that makes spring in our region so special, from stunning gardens and vibrant public spaces to unique cultural experiences, local food and wine, art, music and family-friendly activities,” Destination Greater Bendigo Loddon executive officer James Myatt says.

So, where should you start?

Follow the tulips

If your idea of spring involves an impressive floral display, make a beeline for the Bendigo Annual Tulip Display.

From mid-September to mid-October, thousands of tulips transform Pall Mall and the Conservatory Gardens into a riot of spring colour.

It is the sort of stroll that rewards a leisurely pace – camera optional but highly recommended.

Bloom tip: Build some extra time into your visit. The gardens are just one part of the wider spring experience, with plenty of other Bloom events happening nearby.

See the gardens in a whole new light

Think you’ve seen Bendigo’s parks and gardens before? Wait until the sun goes down.

Bloom After Dark runs from September 18 to October 3, inviting visitors to experience the region’s gardens and public spaces after dark through a series of curated experiences.

It is Bloom with the lights turned down and the atmosphere turned up.

Expect an evening experience that offers a different perspective on some familiar places – and a good reason to make a night of it.

Golden hour, quite literally

Bendigo’s golden history is getting its own spotlight in 2026, as the Bendigo Region marks 175 years since the discovery of gold.

The anniversary comes with a program of events and experiences exploring the region’s rich gold-rush history, culminating in a particularly spectacular sight: the Yi Yuan Gardens illuminated in gold.

It’s a chance to discover the stories behind the region’s history while seeing some of its most recognisable places in a completely different way.

History buffs, consider this your sign.

Put the kettle on – but make it fancy

For those who believe every good getaway should include a little indulgence, the Spring Deluxe High Tea at Langley Estate ticks several boxes.

The experience combines a traditional high tea with a live performance and guided tour of the property’s mansion and gardens.

In other words: cake, culture and beautiful surroundings.

It’s a decidedly elegant way to spend an afternoon – and one that makes a strong case for dressing up a little.

Sip your way through spring

Spring has a colour palette – so why shouldn’t your cocktail?

The Bloom Cocktail Trail – Bendigo and Heathcote will bring together a collection of limited-edition cocktails inspired by the colours and flavours of the season.

Get ready to sip your way through some seriously exciting local flavours! From refreshing spritzes to creative cocktails showcasing local gin, apples, strawberries and native botanicals, there’s plenty to discover.

At Wine Bank on View, try the Sparkling Apple Gin Thyme Fizz, bringing together Harcourt apples and Noble Bootleggers gin for a refreshing local sip. Over at the Black Swan, settle in with a Hugo Spritz featuring lemon and elderflower, an Aviation with Crème de Violette and gin, or the floral and zesty Paloma Rosa with grapefruit and rose.

Then there’s The Pettleberry at The Dispensary Bar & Diner, a celebration of regional flavours combining Argus Tuft Strawberry Gum Gin, spring strawberry and Harcourt apple shrub.

Walk, listen and learn

Bloom isn’t just about what you can see. It’s also an invitation to connect with the living culture of the region.

On a Dumawul Tour, visitors can join a knowledgeable Djaara guide for a cultural walking tour exploring the history, stories and living culture of Dja Dja Wurrung Country.

It’s an opportunity to experience the Bendigo Region through a deeper cultural lens and gain insight into the Country you’re walking through.

Make a market date

Mark September 25 and 27 in the calendar for The Bloomin’ Good Market.

Come hungry – the pop-up market promises bloomin’ good coffee, sweet and savoury treats, live music and plenty more.

It’s the kind of event that lends itself nicely to an unhurried spring morning: grab something delicious, browse, listen to some tunes and see where the day takes you.

Stay a little longer

Here’s the thing about packing all this into a day: you probably shouldn’t.

With so much happening across the Bendigo Region, a spring getaway is a good excuse to slow down and explore beyond a single event.

Bloom accommodation packages offer a way to stay longer and make more of the program, whether you’re planning a weekend escape or building a few extra days around your favourite Bloom experiences.

“With more than 100 events and experiences on offer, Bloom encourages visitors and locals to explore our whole region from Heathcote to Boort,” Myatt says.

The takeaway? Don’t just visit for one thing.

Come for the tulips. Stay for the high tea. Chase some history. Take a cultural tour. Find a market. Sip a spring-inspired cocktail. Then stay another night because, frankly, you’ve earned it.

Explore the full Bloom program and start planning your spring escape.
