While Melania Trump is set to release her memoir early next month, it might be Hillary Clinton’s memoir that gives readers the best impression of who Melania really is.
With Melania not released until October 8, Hillary Clinton’s new memoir has beaten it to bookshelves this week, detailing her first encounter with Trump’s third wife.
Clinton described Melania Trump as reminding her of “the little kid at the birthday party who doesn’t know anyone and is waiting at the edge of the circle, hoping people are going to be nice”.
“On a gut level, I have never believed that a wife bears responsibility for the actions of her husband,” Clinton wrote in Something Lost, Something Gained.
“But did she aid and abet her husband’s worst instincts? Was she quietly complicit in his bigotry and hate-mongering?”
Clinton was defeated with the slimmest of margins by Trump in the 2016 election and has been campaigning for Vice-President Kamala Harris since she was nominated as the Democratic candidate.
Teasers
Trump, the Republican candidate in the upcoming November 2024 election, admitted that he has been “so busy” that he has not read his wife’s memoirs, but told people to go out and buy it.
“I hope she said good things,” he said.
“Go out and buy it, and if she says bad things about me, I’ll call you all up and I’ll say, don’t buy it.”
A marketing blitz has slowly released details and teasers from Melania, including her reaction to the recent assassination attempt on her husband’s life.
Melania also defended her nude modelling prior to marrying Trump, and said that she stands proudly behind it.
“The more pressing question is: Why has the media chosen to scrutinise my celebration of the human form in a fashion photo shoot?” she said in another X post.
“Are we no longer able to appreciate the beauty of the human body? Throughout history, master artists have revered the human shape, evoking profound emotions and admiration.”
She also accused the United States government of invading her privacy during the classified documents search at the couple’s home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.

Donald and Melania
Melania, a model like Trump’s two previous wives, met in 1998.
They married in 2005 after dating on and off. Their only child Barron was born in 2006.
Melania kept a low public profile throughout Trump’s time as president, but came under withering criticism after she appeared in a jacket emblazoned with ‘I really don’t care, do you?’ during a trip to visit a migrant detention centre in 2018.
She later said that the words were for “people and for the left-wing media who are criticising me”.
“It’s obvious I didn’t wear the jacket for the children, I wore the jacket to go on the plane and off the plane,” Melania said.
“I often ask myself, if I had not worn that jacket, if I would have so much media coverage.”
