Adult film actress Stormy Daniels, whose alleged sexual encounter with former president Donald Trump was at the centre of his hush money trial, has opened up on an Australian FM radio station a week after the former US president’s conviction.

“I wished I had stayed out of that hotel room,” Daniels, 45, told The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick breakfast show on Thursday of that now-infamous encounter during a candid 15-minute interview.

Last Friday, a Manhattan Criminal Court jury found Trump, 77, guilty on all 34 counts he faced of falsifying business records to cover up a $US130,000 ($195,000) payment his former lawyer Michael Cohen made to Daniels to buy her silence before the 2016 US election.

Trump, the Republican candidate in November’s presidential election rerun, denies any sex relationship with Daniels and has vowed to appeal against the conviction.

Daniels lives in central Florida with her husband Barrett Blade.

She told the Melbourne radio team that when last week’s verdict was handed down, she was in the middle of directing a mainstream movie – “not an adult movie”.

“I had come home and moved on with my life. I was actually in the middle of directing a movie … I had a whole cast and talent. I had talent on a horse,” she said.

“I got like 17 text messages in a row that all said from different people – my attorney and friend – just said, “Verdict”. I shut down my entire production … and we all came running into the living room the house we were shooting at and put it on.”

Daniels told the radio trio she was overcome with emotion.

“When those charges started coming down, I can’t even begin to tell you the emotions that I felt … somewhere around charge 15 or 16, I just completely melted down.

“I was overcome with emotion and people who know me know that I don’t cry that often.

“My 13-year-old daughter was with me. I was just crying in her lap and she’s like, ‘Yeah, mom, you’re my hero. We did it’.”

During two days in court, Daniels described her 2006 encounter with Trump in unflattering terms, testifying she tried not to think about the sex while it took place and feared it would become public.

She offered details on the witness stand about her encounter and the hush money deal she reached to stay quiet about it before the 2016 election when he won the White House.

She told jurors that her life descended into “chaos” after the arrangement became public in 2018.

Trump’s legal team has suggested Daniels was angling for a spot on reality TV show The Apprentice, which he had hosted.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, said Trump told her: “This is the only way you’re getting out of the trailer park.”

On radio on Thursday she said “that’s a common misconception (that there was consent). I did not go there for sex. I was not paid for sex. I came out of a ladies’ room and he cornered me”.

“He was between me, and the door and I froze. I’m taking responsibility for it. I’ve never said that it was rape, but I didn’t go to that room intending to sleep with him. I went there for a meeting about a television show and was so shocked that I froze.

“And I didn’t say no.”

Fifi Box asked Daniels if she had a message for Trump, as his “people will be aware of this interview … he may very well listen to it too”.

“You say that I reminded you of your daughter (reportedly Ivanka) that night. Is this how you want her to be treated? Do you not want to be an example to your children?

“Do the right thing. Leave my family alone. People have found out where I’ve lived multiple times. My daughter still can’t go outside.

“One of his supporters fired a rubber bullet at my horse last year.

“His supporters are just ravenous, they troll every person I know. They troll every place I try to work; they are relentless and disgusting, and they are trying to intimidate me.”

And regrets?

Only that she wished she stayed out of that hotel room.
