Far-right British media provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported from the US after being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

A statement from the US Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, said he had been deported on Friday local time.

It did not say where he had been deported to but the UK’s Telegraph reported that Yiannopoulos had been flown back to Britain.

Formerly a staunch Donald Trump supporter, Yiannopoulos has called himself as the “world’s most fabulous supervillain”.

He has previously ‌called for supermarket ICE checkpoints and summary ‌deportation of anyone failing to ‌prove legal US residency.

ICE’s ‌parent agency, ‌the ⁠US Department of Homeland Security, ​said Yiannopoulos, 41, was arrested on Thursday at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

According to DHS, Yiannopoulos ​legally entered ‌the United States in May 2019 through ​New York City but “chose to overstay his welcome in violation ​of ​our nation’s ​laws”.

An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to show up for his immigration hearing, a DHS spokesperson wrote in an email.

ICE’s online detainee locator does not say where Yiannopoulos is being held but directs family and legal representatives to the agency’s office in Alexandria, Louisiana, a deportation hub for international flights.

It was not known whether he has obtained legal representation.

Yiannopoulos rose to prominence at the far-right news website Breitbart in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election.

His bigoted content and speeches on college campuses drew attention and denunciations.

Since then, he has feuded with others on the far-right and antagonised mainstream Republicans. He denounced Trump in 2020 before connecting with the rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, to help run his ill-fated 2024 presidential campaign.

Yiannopoulos has frequently taken provocative public positions criticising feminism, Islam and immigrants.

“Zero immigration for the next 20 years. No ifs, no buts,” Yiannopoulos wrote on the social platform X last year.
