Runaway inflatable pumpkin nabbed after police chase

A runaway Halloween decoration has had police on the run in a US city, before being taken home in a divvy van.

Body camera footage from the Parma Heights Police Department in Ohio shows a giant inflatable pumpkin rolling down the street after breaking free from a local house late on Tuesday (local time).

It evades the grasp of officers in pursuit, although they eventually manage to get it halted and detained.

The footage shows an officer holding onto the giant plastic gourd and saying to a colleague that he was “following it” but “it kept blowing away”.

After its capture, multiple officers attempted to deflate the pumpkin, but they failed and had to work together to push the giant orange ball in the back of a police car.

“I’ve never seen that before,” an officer can be heard saying of the inflatable Halloween decoration packed tight in the back seat.

The officers then drove the pumpkin back to its home, where it is again on display “to be enjoyed by all who pass it throughout the remainder of this fall season”, Parma Heights Police Department spokesman Sergeant Eric Taylor said.

“Just another example of our officers going above and beyond, even for seasonal dĂ©cor,” the police department wrote on social media.

“Officers can confirm that Cinderella’s carriage did, in fact, turn back into a pumpkin just after midnight.”
