A Royal Air Force fighter jet has crashed in a ball of flames near homes in north-west Wales, UK, during a high-speed training exercise.

Spectacular footage shows two pilots ejecting out of the T2 Hawk aircraft, with the jet then stalling and dropping from the sky.

The unmanned craft nosedives and hurtles towards the earth, before hitting the ground on the island of Angelsey.

The crash resulted in a massive ball of fire that narrowly missed homes in the small village of Pencarnisiog.

The two pilots safely parachuted to the ground.

The Hawk T2 had been flying out of the RAF Valley base on Wednesday (local time), about 9km from the crash site.

The Royal Air Force said both pilots were receiving medical treatment for minor injuries and their families were being supported.

“The RAF has decided to temporarily pause Hawk T1 and T2 operations as a precautionary measure whilst investigations are ongoing,” said a statement on X.

Richard Owen, owner of Afallon Caravan Park, told the Daily Mail that a section of the tail ended up next to one of his caravans.

Owen was in his kitchen when he heard an initial bang but “didn’t think much about it” as he lives on the flightpath.

“But then I heard a second bang and I saw the fire and flames. It landed just on the other side of the park,” he said.

“I went out to take a look. There were little bits of wreckage all around the site. The tail section must have blown off and landed next to one of the caravans.

“There was lots of smoke, thick.”

The Daily Mail reported that the two pilots were understood to be studying at the No 4 Flying Training School out of RAF Valley.
