Australian man extradited after arrest at Thai resort

A wanted Australian man hiding out on an idyllic Thai island has been arrested after police swarmed a tropical resort, according to multiple media outlets.
Footage shows the Queenslander, Helio Taiyang Richardson, being arrested at Koh Phangan, an island in south-east Thailand.
Thai media report that police were acting on an Interpol arrest warrant.
Richardson was charged with rape in Queensland in 2018 and was able to leave the country before court proceedings were finalised some time in 2022, 9News reports.

The man is understood to have landed in Sydney on Friday morning (AEST) and was on his way to Queensland accompanied by detectives.
He had been holed out on Koh Phangan which is popular with tourists for its zen-like vibe, full moon parties and crystal clear beaches.
