Restaurant staff tricked into smashing windows
A prank caller claiming to be from the local fire department has convinced workers at a Minnesota Burger King to break the fast food outlet’s windows. The caller told staff the building was filled with gas, and they should smash the windows to release the pressure and stop the place from blowing up. The prank is the latest in a string of similar destructive calls to fast food outlets in the US. Read more
Cow sets off radio beacon, prompts emergency response
Police in the Northern Territory have concluded an emergency signal set off near Adelaide River was activated by a grazing cow. Local police rushed to the scene after being alerted to the beacon by authorities in Canberra, but became confused when they arrived to find only a paddock of livestock. It seems the device fell from a helicopter last month and had remained lost in the paddock until a cow tried to eat it. Read more
Thief steals over 900 kilos of cheese from pizza shop
A Colorado pizzeria owner’s newly installed security cameras and extra locks have not been enough to dissuade a cheese thief, who has stolen $5000 worth of provolone from the restaurant. The man returned at least three times to steal more the cheese, and took 19 boxes on his last visit after knocking away the security camera with a pole. The owner believes the thief is selling the cheese to other restaurants and shops. Read more
Couple kissing don’t realise robbery taking place right next to them
Surveillance footage from a bar in Montana depicting a robbery has gone viral, as it shows a couple lock lips so passionately, that they remain completely oblivious to the robbery. During the public display of affection, three suspects with handguns entered the premises and proceeded to empty the till, just 6ft away from the enamoured pair. Read more
Brothers convince post-op sister of zombie apocalypse
Losing her wisdom teeth turned into quite the ordeal for Millicent after her creative – and arguably cruel – older brothers took advantage of her sedated state, and convinced her they were in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. They orchestrated fake radio announcements, staged phone calls, and packed the car to flee to Mexico, while a drugged up Millicent made big decisions like which pets to leave behind, and which cake mix to take on the run. Humanoid robot enrols in high school
Pepper the robot has become the first machine to enrol in high school, alongside human students. Teachers at the school in Japan believe he will be a positive influence on the other students. But Pepper is already employed without his high school education, with Nestlé Japan using his ability to interpret human emotions to sell coffee machines. Read more
