Video footage shows the moment opposition player Ladislav Nagy flew through the air and accidentally made contact with Vitali Sitnikov’s throat.
Sitnikov was quick to realise he had been struck, and began shaking his hands furiously before quickly skating over to his team-mates sitting on the sideline.
The video shows Nagy ripping his helmet off to reveal blood streaming down his neck.
Medical staff then rushed over to the clearly distressed player and began attending to his wound.
Sitnikov was soon stretchered off with team-mates and a team doctor in tow.
A media release on the team’s website confirmed Sitnikov had not ruptured an artery and was “fine”.
