Bare-chested models tackled by Beijing police

A group of wannabe Spartans have been physically restrained on the streets of Beijing after a promotional activity turned ugly, Chinese newspaper People’s Daily has reported.

Dressed in capes and the skimpiest of leather shorts, around 100 foreign models drew crowds of onlookers as they advertised an organic salad delivery service in the Guomao district.

In place of Greek spears, their weapon of choice was a cup of the healthy salad, which they carried wielded through the city.

It is reported the models had intended on delivering salads to office workers, but their plan was thwarted after they started receiving too much attention.

Throngs of locals began surrounding the men, taking photos and uploading them to social media side Weibo.

Once the group reached the Sanlitun district, they were met by police who ordered them to disperse, claiming to be responding to disturbance complaints.

Images on social media captured the incident, which ended in police arresting and sitting atop of a few of the Spartans who refused to disperse.

Large gatherings are illegal in China without prior consent from authorities.

The company behind the raunchy stunt, Sweetie Salad, apologised for the disturbance and said the scantily-clad Spartans were there to promote good health, in celebration of the company’s one year anniversary.
