An AirAsia plane has overshot a runway in the Philippines on Tuesday night, forcing passengers and crew to disembark using emergency slides.

The news comes just days after AirAsia flight QZ8501 crashed into the Java Sea with 162 people on board.

All 153 passengers on flight Z2272 from Manila to Kalibo escaped without injury after bad weather caused the plane to make a rough landing.

Passengers tweeting the event said they were told to disembark the plane quickly and leave their bags as firetrucks arrived.

AirAsia confirmed all passengers had safely disembarked the plane without injury.

“AirAsia Philippines confirms flight Z2272 from Manila skidded off the Kalibo International Airport runway at 5.43pm (8.43pm AEDT) upon landing,” the airline said in a statement.

“All 153 passengers and crew were able to disembark safely, no injuries reported. All passengers are now at a hotel assisted by AirAsia staff.”

Jakarta-based journalist Jet Damazo-Santos who was travelling on the flight denied passengers were at a hotel, saying they were still at Kalibo Airport hours after the landing.
