A family of five have been saved by their pet husky after the dog broke out of her cage to wake them during a suspected arson attack on their home, according to a Mail Online report.

The 10-month-old dog managed to free herself from her cage before pawing at her owner while he slept as smoke filled the house in Manchester, England.

A rubbish bin was pushed up to the front door of the family home and set on fire in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mark Johnson said without the husky named Araya waking him up, the family would probably be dead.

“The smoke was coming through the door and she has somehow got out of the cage. She must have bent it a lot to force it open,” Mr Johnson said.

“I was sound asleep and the door between me and the front door was shut so I was not going to wake up. She came in and was pawing at me and barking.”

Mr Johnson, who was sleeping downstairs before leaving for work early on Sunday morning, said as he called the fire brigade, Araya went upstairs to wake up his wife and children.

“Dogs can sense danger, and that must have been what has happened,” he said.

“Everyone was asleep upstairs so you dread to think what might have happened.”

Police are investigating the arson attack.
