Guns ‘not pointed’ at terminal
A Defence report has dismissed claims military personnel pointed a gun at Newcastle Airport’s passenger terminal and an aircraft during a training exercise earlier this year.
A Virgin Blue Aircraft Captain reported the alleged incident on April the 8th this year.
On that day Army personnel were conducting a training exercise at the RAAF base in Williamtown.
The aircraft captain told Air Traffic Control during the exercise he saw personnel pointing weapons at the civilian terminal.
He later reported that he saw personnel pointing weapons at an aircraft.
The army personnel were ordered to move away from the area.
Defence says video surveillance has since been reviewed, confirming weapons were not pointed at an aircraft.
Defence has stressed live ammunition was not used in the training exercise, which was well publicised ahead of it being carried out
