Aus suicide bomber kills 3: reports
The first Australian suicide bomber in Iraq has killed three people and injured more than 90 people in a Baghdad market attack on Thursday.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) announced on Twitter overnight that a man known as Abu Bakr al-Australi had detonated an explosives vest near a Shiite mosque in the Iraqi capital.
The man’s real name is unclear, but Australian jihadists are known to use “al-Australi” in their nom de guerre, and such official reports by ISIL are usually accurate.
ASIO believes that around 150 Australians are involved with extremist groups in Syria and Iraq, with about 60 fighting in the region at the moment.
