Mass shooting kills six in Texas

Six people died, including four children, in the shooting at a house in the suburb of Spring on Wednesday afternoon, the Houston Chronicle reports.

The victims reportedly range in age from five to 40.

A police spokesman said police responded to a report of a shooting about 6pm and found a woman and a child who had been shot in the head.

The gunman is believed to be a member of the family.

Harris County Precinct 4 Assistant Chief Deputy Constable Mark Herman told the Associated Press that the shooting arose from a breakup in the family who lived in the house. He said a woman wounded at the scene identified the gunman and warned that he planned to kill more people at another relative’s home.

One child died after being airlifted to hospital while the condition of another adult who was wounded is unknown.

Police officers have reportedly cornered the gunman in a cul-de-sac a short distance away after a chase and a siege is in progress.

Spring is about 25 miles north of Houston.
