South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales have received severe weather warnings for Tuesday, after a spate of destructive weather that has left parts of SA still without power.

More heavy rain will move into the Adelaide area from Kangaroo Island this morning bringing another five to 15mm of rain and wind gusts of more than 90km/h.

Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) duty forecaster Vince Rowlands said the heaviest rainfalls overnight were in the Adelaide Hills, with about 12mm to 13mm at Lobethal and Lenswood.

He warned there was more “substantial” rain forecast for the region today.

“Up in the Hills, we’re still thinking generally up to about 30mm, getting up to about 40mm, so yes still the possibility of getting some pretty substantial rain up in the Hills,” he said.

Weather forecasters had tipped parts of the Adelaide Hills would see up to 100mm after several days of storms.

“By the time we get through this period I’m sure there will be a couple of places in the Hills that got pretty close to that 100mm mark.”

Victoria braces for rain, hail and wind

A severe weather warning was announced for most of the Gippsland and Wimmera areas, while Melbourne was predicted to be doused in heavy rain.

Destructive winds were set to hit Horsham, Warrnambool, Bendigo, Seymour, Maryborough, Ballarat and Geelong.

The State Emergency Service advised people to move their vehicles from underneath trees, and keep clear of fallen powerlines.

Melbourne had a chance of hail and thunderstorms, easing by the end of Tuesday. It was predicted to receive up to 10mm of rain.

New South Wales to cop damaging winds

The BoM also issued a severe weather warning for people in the Metropolitan, Illawarra and parts of the South Coast, Central Tablelands and Southern Tablelands forecast districts.

Sydney, meanwhile, was forecast to be 25C and sunny, with just 5 per cent chance of rainfall.
