Residents in a popular fishing village and rural area have been told to evacuate, as an out-of-control bushfire bears down on them.
An emergency warning was issued for parts of Wedge Island and Cooljarloo in the Shire of Dandaragan, about 180 kilometres north of Perth, on Tuesday.
“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive,” the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said in an alert.
“There is a threat to lives and homes.
“If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place.”
Parts of Indian Ocean Drive were closed and residents were told to leave in a northerly direction towards the town of Cervantes.
“The bushfire is moving in a north-westerly direction,” the emergency warning said.
“It is not contained or controlled.”
