Libs extend Canning lead: poll
The Liberal Party appear well-placed ahead of Saturday’s important Canning by-election.
It appears that Malcolm Turnbull’s ascension to Australia’s top job is to thank, with the Liberal Party jumping further clear of Labor in the polls.
A ReachTEL poll showed Liberal candidate Andrew Hastie had extended his lead by five points.
• Liberals on the slide in Canning
• ‘Labor is tanking the Canning by-election’
• Canning Liberal candidate defends his family
Mr Hastie led Labor’s Matt Keogh 57-43 on a two-party preferred basis.
The poll saw over 1000 Canning residents surveyed on Monday night during the leadership spill.
Respondents were then asked to consider a scenario where Mr Turnbull was the country’s Prime Minister.
