Charges laid after hoon hits teen

A 17-year-old boy is facing a number of charges after a teenage girl had part of her leg amputated after being hit by a car in Darch, north of Perth.

Police were called to reports of a car doing burnouts in a car park on Westport Parade around 11:00pm Friday night.

The car lost control and hit a parked car before travelling onto a kerb and striking a group of people standing on a nearby grassed area.

The 17-year-old girl received serious injuries to her leg, which was partially severed on impact.

She has since undergone surgery to have her lower leg amputated and remains in Royal Perth Hospital.

Another girl suffered a minor ankle injury.

Both were taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle ran from the scene but was arrested by police a short time later at his home address in Darch.

He has been charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, driving without a license and driving with a blood alcohol limit of more than 0.05.

He will appear before the Perth Children’s Court on July 15.
