A bushfire is burning close to a mine site in the Pilbara
There are unconfirmed reports workers at Fortescue Metals Group’s Cloudbreak iron ore mine have been evacuated because of a bushfire burning close to the remote site, in Western Australia’s Pilbara.
The mine is about 170km north of Newman.
The Shire of East Pilbara is assisting with the bushfire, which it said started earlier in the week before moving towards the mine site.
