Two in hospital after public bus crashes through houses

Two people have been hospitalised after a bus crashed through houses on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

The bus collided with a concrete truck at Safety Beach about 11am on Wednesday.

The force of the smash sent it through two fences and a pair of houses.

Early reports from police said up to 12 passengers were on board the bus, but no one was inside the homes.

The 44-year-old bus driver had to be freed from the wreck.

He and a 17-year-old male passenger were taken to Frankston Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 32-year-old truck driver was not hurt and is assisting police, while another passenger suffered minor injuries.

Footage captured by a news helicopter showed the front of the bus lodged in the roof of a single-storey home on Dromana Parade.

The house has suffered significant structural damage and emergency crews are on the scene to help remove the vehicle.

Circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation and any witnesses have been asked to contact police.

The public bus is operated by Ventura.
