More than 100 passengers have survived a train crash in regional Victoria, escaping without injuries.

Emergency services were called to a collision between a Melbourne-bound V/Line train and delivery van in Yarragon at 8.20am on Tuesday.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the driver of the van was lucky to escape with minor injuries and taken to hospital for assessment.

But the van sustained significant damage – its contents sprawled across the railway crossing.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and have called on anyone who saw the smash or had footage of it to contact Crime Stoppers.

A V/Line spokesperson thanked passengers for their patience following the crash.

He said there were major delays on the Traralgon and Bairnsdale lines after the collision.

Coaches replaced trains for several hours with trains resuming shortly before midday.

Once given the all clear by authorities, crews are at the scene ready to assess and repair any damage to the train and rail infrastructure.

V/Line has advised the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) and will conduct an investigation into the crash.
