Parts of Melbourne Central closed after stabbing

A man is in hospital in a stable condition after being stabbed at Melbourne Central shopping centre on Friday.

Police have closed the lower level of Melbourne Central shopping centre on Swanston Street opposite the State Library in Melbourne’s CBD.

A Victoria Police spokesperson told The New Daily that two men, who may be known to one another, had an altercation in the busy Melbourne Central multi-level centre around 1.30pm.

Investigators have been told a man attacked the victim with a box-cutter.

Police said the victim, a 28-year-old man from Doncaster has been taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation was still ongoing.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson told The New Daily one person was treated with an injury to the upper body at the Lonsdale Street entrance and was in a stable condition.
