A man has been charged with 92 offences over a terrifying fire at a suburban Melbourne bank that injured 36 people.

The 21-year-old is accused of setting fire to the Commonwealth Bank on Springvale Road, Springvale, on November 18 last year.

Among the charges are counts of intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury, criminal damage by fire, conduct endangering life and gross violence.

The man named Nur Islam, a Myanmar asylum seeker, suffered burns to 60 per cent of his body after allegedly setting himself alight using flammable liquid, News Corp reported.

He appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court briefly on Thursday evening and was remanded to appear again on May 11.

More to come.
