Car ‘deliberately’ rammed into hospital

Staff and patients at a hospital in Melbourne’s west have escaped uninjured after a man allegedly deliberately rammed his car into the emergency department.

The four-wheel drive crashed through the doors of the Sunshine Hospital just before 9pm on Friday.

No-one was hurt but the 34-year-old driver from Caroline Springs was admitted to hospital for further assessment.

Senior Sergeant Jason Dolman from Victoria Police said the man had requested treatment at the hospital just minutes before the incident.

“He’s returned a short time later and driven his vehicle into the front of the hospital through the emergency entrance,” he said.

“It was a deliberate action. Luckily no-one was injured.

“There was a number of people at the front, the people have managed to avoid him and luckily the main entry to the hospital where usually a lot of patients accumulate didn’t have anyone present.”
