Man critical after Vic train and car crash
A passenger train and a car have collided at a level crossing in country Victoria.
A man is fighting for his life after a train collided with his car at a level crossing in Victoria’s far east.
The man’s car crashed into a V/Line train at a level crossing in Bairnsdale at about 6.20am on Monday, Ambulance Victoria said.
He was airlifted to The Alfred hospital, which landed at 9.45am and was given a blood transfusion using blood carried on the helicopter.
V/Line said none of the 66 people on the train was injured and the service will be replaced by a bus to Melbourne.

V/Line also confirmed that the level crossing at Power Station Road has no lights or boom gates.
Less than half of Victoria’s 1800 level crossings have active warning devices such as boom gates.
