A motorcyclist who was hit by a car and then struck by another as he lay on the ground has become the sixth motorbike crash fatality in two weeks in Victoria.

A man is dead after his bike and a car collided on the Princes Highway at Nar Nar Goon, south-east of Melbourne, at 11:30pm on Wednesday night.

Sergeant David Calkin said a second car also hit the rider.

“A motor vehicle has come out of Snell Road heading south, we believe at this stage failed to see the motorcyclist and has pulled out in front of the motorcyclist,” he said.

“The motorcyclist unfortunately hit the car, [has] been thrown to the ground and a car that was following then swerved to avoid the motorcycle and hit the prone rider who was on the ground.”

Police said his death was one of nine on the road this month.

“Tragically, this man’s death means that for the month of February, six out of the nine fatalities on our roads have been motorcycle riders,” Victoria Police said.

Both cars stopped at the scene to assist police.

Police said one of the cars contained two men and the other just the driver. One man has been taken to hospital suffering from shock.

The crash comes days after a motorcyclist died and another was seriously injured after two separate crashes in Melbourne.
