Police target Stereosonic
A week after a woman died from a drug she took at a music festival in Sydney, police in Victoria are urging people not to gamble with their lives at Melbourne’s Stereosonic this weekend.
Sniffer dogs and police will be outside and inside the Melbourne Showgrounds to crack down on illicit drugs among the thousands of people expected to attend the festival.
“The best way to avoid the harm caused by drugs is to not take them to begin with,” Inspector Paul Tymms said on Friday.

Sylvia Choi, 25, collapsed after reportedly taking the drug ecstasy at Stereosonic in Sydney Olympic Park last weekend and later died in hospital.
Another 22-year old woman from the UK was put into an induced coma after also overdosing.
The organisers of the event expressed their sympathies to the family of the woman who died and urged caution for future party-goers.
“Totem Onelove conveys our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the patron who tragically passed away on Saturday night at Sydney Stereosonic,” a spokesperson said.
“We appeal to our audience that they stay safe and look out for each other.”
Stereosonic Melbourne is expected to draw a crowd of over 40,000 at the Showgrounds.
