Fire ignited at Ravenhall prison

Several fire trucks were called to Melbourne’s Metropolitan Remand Centre at Ravenhall on Tuesday night, when a fire started in a cell.
This comes a month after the maximum security prison was the scene of riots, causing millions of dollars worth of damage, with prisoners protesting against state-wide smoking bans introduced to prisons.
On Tuesday night, Melbourne Fire Brigade (MFB) and Country Fire Authority (CFA) firefighters attended the centre after an alarm was raised at 7.11pm on Tuesday, a CFA spokesman said.

The fire was controlled by 7.25pm.
The previous riot started on June 30 and lasted almost 24-hours.
Heavily armed police officers carrying shields stormed the Victorian maximum security prison, bringing more than 300 inmates under control.
Staff were forced to evacuate as police with tear gas and riot gear, along with members of the dog squad, were deployed to quell the violence.
Prisoners broke into staff areas, smashed doors, walls and fences, set a series of fires and ruined the fire alarm and heating systems.
Damages were reportedly estimated at $10 million.
Corrections Victoria confirmed two staff members and several inmates were injured as a result of the protest.
