Girl loses leg in boat accident
A 15-year-old girl has had her leg severed above the knee in a wakeboarding accident on the Murray River in north-eastern Victoria.
The girl was wakeboarding near Bundalong, east of Yarrawonga, when she fell into the water.
When the boat turned back, the propeller struck the girl’s leg, severing it above the knee.
A number of off-duty nurses were in a boat nearby and helped the girl until paramedics arrived on the scene.
She was airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne where she is in a serious but stable condition.
A 45-year-old man is being interviewed and Albury police have seized the boat for a mechanical inspection.
