Gas leak closes city streets
Melbourne’s Collins Street has been closed off to pedestrians and traffic between Queen and William Street following a gas leak, police say.
Police said excavators disturbed a construction site in the area, rupturing a gas pipe.
Two people were evacuated from the site.
Yarra Trams said effected trams have been diverted into Elizabeth, Flinders and Latrobe Streets.
The Metropolitan Fire Brigade said the gas leak has been brought under control but the area would remain closed for four hours as a precaution.
