Arrest over park death

Detectives have arrested a man following the death of a woman whose body was found in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens on Saturday.

Scott Allen Miller, a 42-year-old from Western Australia, was arrested in NSW on Monday afternoon.

Moments earlier police released image of Mr Miller walking with a second man towards the Carlton Hotel on Bourke Street in Melbourne’s CBD around 1.50am Saturday.

The unclothed body of the victim, believed to be a Chinese migrant worker aged in her 30s, was found by joggers on Saturday morning at 8.35am near the corner of St Kilda Road and Linlithgow Avenue, Southbank.

Homicide squad detectives were searching for Miller, a homeless man who has been living rough since moving to Melbourne around six weeks ago.

Search crews discovered several items of interest, including a handbag and some of the woman’s clothing. A pair of scissors was also found nearby.

It is believed that Miller was sleeping in a rotunda 200 metres from where the woman was found in the Royal Botanic Gardens.
