Three nabbed in credit card skimming racket

Police in Melbourne say they have smashed an international crime syndicate involved in credit card skimming following the arrest of three men.

Melbourne police arrested two men, a 24-year-old UK national and a 42-year-old Bulgarian man, outside ATMs in the Melbourne CBD on Wednesday night.

The next day detectives seized a large number of fraudulent cards, cash skimming devices, laptops and cash from a hotel in Melbourne’s Docklands.

A third man, a 24-year-old UK national, was arrested at Sydney airport on Saturday night.

Investigators will apply to have him extradited to Melbourne.

The pair arrested in Melbourne were charged with obtaining property by deception and remanded in custody to appear in court next month.

Police warned that credit cards may have been compromised in the New South Wales suburbs of Engadine, Gymea and Bowral.

Card holders were advised to be vigilant when using their cards and to monitor their transactions on statements.
