Man in custody over Carlton cafe strip crash
A North Melbourne man has appeared in court after allegedly crashing a stolen ute into a cafe and a number of shops in Carlton on Saturday.
It is alleged the man drove along the footpath on Rathdowne Street just before midday, sending cafe patrons running for their lives to avoid the vehicle.
The ute eventually crashed into the front window of the Paragon Cafe.
Idris Hassan, 27, of North Melbourne, was charged with conduct endangering life, assaulting police, intentionally causing serious injury, vehicle theft and a number of traffic offences.
One woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Hassan was remanded in custody and will return to court on Friday.
