Victorian Government proposes changes to simplify rape laws
The State Government is calling for public feedback on proposed changes to rape laws.
The Government says Victoria’s rape laws are too complex, leading to confusion for juries at rape trials.
Attorney-General Robert Clark says the Government’s proposed changes should mean fewer people are acquitted of rape because of legal complexities.
“We’re hoping to ensure just outcomes and that people who are maybe getting away in the past with rape because of the complexity in the law are held to account.”
