Fast-flowing waters will be trawled through in search of the body of a presumed-dead Belgian tourist who disappeared in Tasmania’s northwest.

Celine Cremer was reported missing on June 26 after she was last seen more than a week earlier in the Philosopher Falls area near Cradle Mountain, where her car was found parked.

No signs of her have been found despite an expansive search involving ground crews, police drones and helicopters, specialist search and rescue rappelling, and ATVs.

“Weather conditions have been challenging, with personnel facing freezing temperatures, snow, rain and strong winds over the past week,” Tasmania Police inspector Anthea Maingay said in a statement on Monday.

“Tomorrow we will utilise more resources to conduct swift water searching in the area.

“We’re doing this in a bid to find some answers for Celine’s family, before we begin to scale back the search.”

Expert medical advice provided to police indicates Ms Cremer would not have been able to survive freezing weather conditions.

The Philosopher Falls walking track at Waratah remains closed to the public.
