Wild weather across Hobart has eased after the city copped heavy rain and flash flooding in what was labelled a once-in-a-decade meteorological event.
Hobart received a whopping 69mm of rain on Tuesday night, but the highest total was 147mm at Mount Wellington, which overlooks the Tasmanian capital.
• Should the devil become Tasmania’s emblem?
Multiple roads were flooded during the downpour, with emergency services receiving 15 calls to help with flood damage between 10pm and 6am.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) called the extreme weather “the kind of event you’d see every 10 years or so during summer”.
On Wednesday afternoon, BoM forecaster Anna Forrest told AAP the worst of the weather had passed.
“We’ve had persistent light rain during the day today but it’s not really done anything major,” Ms Forrest told AAP.
“Everything’s coping pretty well.”

She said the situation had improved so much that she wasn’t expecting the bureau to issue any flood warnings on Wednesday.
“But some of the little creeks might be running a bit strongly,” she added.
She forecast more showers on Wednesday night, and a clearer day for Thursday.
