Chase kills woman outside home

A police chase in a small northern Tasmanian town has ended with one woman dead and a man in hospital.

Police saw a blue car speeding through Evandale, outside Launceston about 8:40 pm on Friday.

After initially trying to stop the car, officers lost sight of it.

Minutes later, about three kilometres north of Evandale, police came across the blue car crashed into a white ute.

The 54-year-old woman driving the ute, who had been turning into her driveway, died at the scene.

A 25-year-old man has been taken to the Launceston General Hospital but police said he was not injured.

The road was closed for several hours and police advised it would be closed again today for further investigations.
