Man critical after house fire near Hobart
A man is in a critical condition after a house fire in southern Tasmania early this morning.
The 41-year-old occupant of the Clarendon Vale home alerted emergency services to the fire about 1am (AEST).
He was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital suffering smoke inhalation and serious burns, and remains in a critical condition in the intensive care unit.
The home, on Avro Court, was extensively damaged and investigators are at the scene.
Sergeant Renee Stewart said crews had monitored the fire to make sure it did not reignite.
“It does not appear suspicious at this stage, however we can’t determine the exact cause until fire examiners have looked at it,” she said.
