New focus on anti-smoking campaign
Several Tasmanians who have given up smoking are the faces of a new campaign to encourage others to quit.
Nearly 22 per cent of Tasmanians smoke.
Kathryn Terry from the cancer council says while graphic advertising showing the consequences of smoking works, the new campaign features three former smokers telling their stories of giving up for good.
“This message is about being positive,” she said.
“It’s about motivating people, it’s about showing smokers that there is success.”
The $30,000 advertising campaign will air for the first time tonight, leading up to world “no tobacco day”.
