Doubling of home builders grant will be ‘adrenaline shot’ for economy
The Tasmanian Government will again double the state’s home builders grant to try to stimulate the state’s struggling economy.
First home builders will now be eligible for a payment of $30,000, the largest grant of it is kind in the nation.
Premier Lara Giddings will announce the plan at a job forums in Launceston today, and the grants will take effect immediately.
Stuart Clues from the Housing Industry Association has welcomed the boost and says its is exactly what the state needs.
“You need something that’s like an adrenaline shot to the economy and I think this enough to wake people out of their slumber,” Mr Clues said.
Last December the Premier increased the payment from $7,000 to $15,000 but the take up was far slower than expected.
The scheme will run until December next year.
