South Australia Police have released footage of an alarming incident in which three would-be arsonists apparently suffered “significant” burns.
The CCTV footage shows the trio dousing the front of a house in Young Street, Solomontown, in the SA town of Port Pirie, with an accelerant on near midnight last Monday.
The three males then climb back into their waiting car, only for it to catch alight as they start to drive away.
As flames engulf the vehicle, the trio runs away, abandoning it in the street.
SA Police said officers found the car ablaze and a fire burning at the front of the nearby Young Street house when they arrived shortly after midnight. The fires were put out with a fire extinguisher.
“The occupants of the house were not injured during the incident. The exterior of the house was charred by flames,” police said.
Concerns remain, however, for the three males.
“It is extremely likely they have suffered significant burns or injuries in the fire and police urge them to seek medical attention,” police said.
Anyone with information about the identity or location of anyone involved in the incident is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
