Fake firefighters in SA scam

Those wanting to support bushfire victims are being warned not to trust those knocking on doors seeking donations.

“We’re had reports of people claiming to be from the CFS knocking on doors in an effort to raise cash donations,” CFS spokesman Russ Diggins said.

“The CFS doesn’t solicit donations in this matter.”

Firefighters hurt, dozens of homes feared lost

He urged those who had been approached by people wanting money to contact police.

Well-meaning people are also trying to make donations at local fire stations where firefighters were coming to and from blazes in the Sampson Flat area.

And while appreciated, Mr Diggins those people were interrupting important fire fighting efforts.

The CFS is working on a website where donations can be made.
