Driver Joshua Sumsion changes plea to guilty over pedestrian death

A driver has admitted in court to causing the death of a man who was crossing an Adelaide road on his way home.

Joshua Benjamin Sumsion, 22, was due to stand trial next month in the District Court after pleading not guilty to a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

But at the latest court hearing he changed his plea to guilty.

It previously was alleged Sumsion’s utility struck the pedestrian in States Road at Morphett Vale in June 2011, causing the man, 38, to be thrown onto the other side of the road where he was hit by two more cars.

The victim died at the scene.

There are to be sentencing submissions in December.
