A wanted man has been fatally shot by police after allegedly threatening officers with a firearm in a stolen car.
Another man has also been shot in a separate incident, suffering a leg injury amid a “feud” in central Queensland.
The man wanted by police died after allegedly twice confronting officers on the Gold Coast.
He was spotted in Labrador about 8.15am on Thursday and “presented a firearm” at officers before fleeing in a stolen car, police said.
The vehicle came to a stop at Arundel, about a 10-minute drive away.
The man was shot during another alleged confrontation about an hour later. He died at the scene, despite medical assistance.
Meanwhile, in central Queensland, police have linked a shooting at Rockhampton on Wednesday to another on the same street barely two weeks ago.
Police were called to the Beserker residence about 12.30pm responding to triple-zero calls about shots being fired inside a house.
The 40-year-old man was taken to hospital with a leg injury. He has since been discharged.
A 41-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm outside the same house on February 21, later undergoing reconstructive surgery.
“We do believe that they are linked,” Detective Acting Senior Sargent Kevin Mawdsley said on Thursday.
“It appears to us that there has been some sort of fall out or feud between this group of people who are all known to each other.
“The reasons … that is the part this is not clear to us.”
Anyone with information on either shootings is urged to contact police.
“These people are obviously motivated to commit serious acts of violence,” Mawdsley said.
“We don’t have anyone in custody at this point in time. I can’t comment on what they are likely to do.
“We don’t believe there is a risk to the general community.”
