Residents have been forced to evacuate after a horror crash on a major Brisbane motorway unleashed a huge fireball and sent toxic smoke billowing over surrounding suburbs.
The smash on the Logan Motorway occurred between a B-double truck carrying hazardous material and an Audi that was allegedly stolen half an hour before about 8.15pm on Tuesday.
It forced the closure of the motorway in both directions near Loganlea and Kingston, in Brisbane’s south.

Queensland Police made an emergency declaration for an exclusion zone under the state’s Public Safety Preservation Act due to the billowing toxic smoke. The order remained in effect on Wednesday morning.
The area encompasses a stretch of the Logan Motorway from the Wembley Road off and on-ramps, Station Road, the Logan Motorway on-ramp and Kingston Road.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said the truck driver was taken to Logan Hospital in a stable condition for observation.
Police have turned their attention to the driver and passenger from the stolen Audi. They reportedly fled the scene on foot.
