A Brisbane teenager has reportedly been charged with a terror offence after police foiled an alleged plot to attack a school.

Multiple media outlets are reporting the 16-year-old is accused of attempting to buy firearms online.

Queensland’s joint counter-terror unit reportedly foiled the plot, which had targeted a school on Brisbane’s north side.

The teenager has been charged with one count of an act of preparation for a terror act, or planning a terror act.

That offence carries a maximum penalty of life behind bars.

The Australian Federal Police said the investigation was ongoing but there was no current threat to the public.
