Dingo attack: Boy, 6, in hospital after Fraser Island mauling

A six-year-old child is in hospital after being bitten multiple times by a dingo on Fraser Island on Saturday evening.

The boy was bitten on the lower leg while returning to his campsite with his family at Eurong on the island’s eastern side.

Paramedics were called shortly after 6:00pm and an ambulance spokesperson said the boy was in a stable condition.

The Bundaberg LifeFlight helicopter airlifted the child to nearby Hervey Bay Hospital for further treatment.

RACQ LifeFlight Rescue aircrewman, Dan Leggat, said the incident occurred following an afternoon swim.

“The family had finished swimming when the young boy said he wanted to race up a sand dune,” he said.

“Unfortunately, when he got to the top, there was a pack of four dingoes. One of the dingoes attacked the boy and bit him on the leg.”

In July 2017, a 25-year-old woman suffered minor injuries after being bitten on the arm by a dingo at Lake Mackenzie near the centre of the island.
