Carnage in Queensland as road toll rises

Three motorcyclists and a horse have been killed in separate crashes on Queensland roads within 24 hours.

A dirt bike rider also had to be airlifted to hospital after a crash at an event near Chinchilla.

A 40-year-old male motorcyclist died in a collision with a car about 9.20am on Saturday on Esk Hampton Rd, west of Brisbane.

The male car driver wasn’t injured and forensic crash unit officers are investigating.

Another motorcyclist died when he hit a horse on a highway near Townsville late on Friday night.

He died at the scene of the crash, which happened when the animal came on to the road at Bluewater.

The horse was also killed in the accident.

A third motorcyclist died in Mount Stuart, near Townsville, on Saturday afternoon.

He crashed on Mount Stuart Rd and died at the scene.

A man aged in his 30s had to be airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital when he came off his bike while going over a fallen tree in a dirt bike event west of Chinchilla.

He has a serious upper right arm injury and is in a stable condition.
