The trial for accused wife killer Gerard Baden-Clay is in its final stages, with the defence and prosecution to begin summing up their cases.

The former Brisbane real-estate agent has pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife and the mother of their three children, Allison, in April 2012.

He’s emphatically denied prosecution claims he probably smothered her before loading her body into a car in the middle of the night and dumping it at the Kholo Creek Bridge at Anstead, not far from the family’s home.

Baden-Clay last week told the Supreme Court he never harmed his wife in any way, and despite evidence of his numerous affairs, he was a concerned husband and father.

“It’s not a facade,” he told the court.

Baden-Clay’s barrister Michael Byrne QC will on Monday begin summing up the defence case for the jury.

Crown prosecutor Todd Fuller will follow, before Justice John Byrne gives his directions to the jury before they retire to consider a verdict.
